DESIGN BRIEF
Form a paragraph by answering the following :-
What will you make? why will you make it?
who will use it? What is it for?
SPECIFICATION:-
What will it be made from? What size will it be?
How will you make it safe to use?
What should, would and could it be used for?
Finding the best animal or natural shape is probably the most challenging part of this project!
Look for the shape that looks good recognisable in silouhette.
Remember you are working with wood, so thin parts will be very weak due to the grain of the wood.

TASK 1 . MAKE AN ACCURATE TEMPLATE & DO SOME DRAWINGS
Produce an accurate Template for your
Desktop Structure based on the Theme of Nature.
Draw your Final idea in 3D or on 2D Design
Make a Card Template of your design, and produce
a Drawing of what you think your completed
Desktop Structure will look like.
This should be done in the Classroom
TASK 2. WRITE A DESIGN BRIEF AND
SPECIFICATION FOR YOUR DESKTOP
STUCTURE
Write your own Design Brief and
Specification in response to the Challenge set
by ACME Designs.
This should be completed in Class
TASK 3. RESEARCH HARDWOODS AND
SOFTWOODS
Research working properties of Hardwoods and Softwoods .
You could carry out some research into different Hardwoods
and Softwoods,
and comment on what things you have to take into account
when shaping and forming them.

This Should be completed as Homework.
TASK 4. RESEARCH YOUR NATURAL WORLD THEME
Research your chosen Natural World theme.
Write about, and draw the animal, fish or bird that you
have chosen to make.
This will help you get your template accurate.

TASK 5. PRODUCE A PLAN OF MAKING
Produce a plan of how you will make or have made your Key Fob.
You could show how you plan to make your Desktop Structure

You may complete this as Homework or in Class.
TASK 6. WRITE ABOUT THE TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE USED
Tools, equipment and Processes
You could write about all of or one of the tools and equipment
you have used saying what went well and what no so well.
Also write about what you used them for.
Min 1 side of A4 paper
You may complete this as Homework or in Class.
TASK 7. WRITE ABOUT A NEW TECHNIQUE YOU HAVE LEARNED
Solve technical problems
You could write about all or one of the techniques you have learned;
Filing, Drilling, use of a range of sand papers, polishing and finishing,
Using Coping Saw, Fret Saw, Band saw or CADCAM.

You may complete this as Homework or in Class.

TASK 8. EVALUATE WHAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED
Reflect critically when evaluating and modifying your
Desk Top Structure designs.

you would do if you had the opportunity to do it again.
